Are you making the most of your homepage for driving sales and signups? Or do most visitors click the back button?

If you’re like the average business owner, you may not be too sure. But according to a report released by usability researcher Jakob Nielsen November last year (2013):

Websites spend too little homepage screen space on content of interest to users and fail to utilize modern monitor sizes. And? It’s worse now than it was 12 years ago :-(

That one square foot of space is the most valuable real estate an online entrepreneur owns, but it is allocated very poorly—as he says, “most pixels go to waste.”

It was bad before, but it’s getting worse! With this in mind, I’ve put together a small “Homepage Catchup 2014” info package for entrepreneurs and small business owners. It is intentionally very concise—just enough to get you caught up with the 20% of critical information that produces 80% of your results. Here’s what I put in it:

1. “How to quickly tell if your site will turn visitors into customers”

This is a dense, single-page cheat-sheet that usually only customers of my conversion optimization course, Attention-Thievery Academy, get access to (ATA costs $990+ and is sold through Perry Marshall as the 80/20 Landing Page Conversion Express).

2. “Why the fold is a myth, and where to actually put your calls to action”

A short report to help you understand exactly where to put a call to action, so you don’t fall for poorly-designed templates.

3. “The little-known secret of how to actually choose a web designer (in 5 easy steps)”

Another short report to help you come to grips with thinking about your homepage as a business asset, and picking someone who will actually help you improve its ROI.

4. “Mastering thought sequences”

An issue of my monthly Attention-Thieves’ Communiqué with a list price of $66. This dispatch provides the foundation for helping you think about how customers get to your homepage, and where they want to go from there.

I’d like to give this little package away to anyone who will take it, in the hopes it will help you improve your own homepage—and your bottom line for 2014.
